Green Building: Gloucester Residence

4.3 kilowatt (kW) photovoltaic (PV) system installed on roof. System will provide over 100% of annual electricity needs for the house. Excess electricity will be sold back to the electric company.

3-panel solar hot water system. System will provide approximately 60% of annual hot water needs for the house.
Attic: R-76 insulation (cellulose) with a radiant barrier (reflective bubble wrap) to reduce summer attic temperatures.
Walls: Added R-30 (5” of closed cell foam) to the existing R-13 wall system for a total of R-43.
Windows: Triple-pane, argon-filled, low-emissivity glazing in foam-filled fiberglass frames.
Appliances: All ENERGY STAR.
Lighting system: All compact fluorescent lights (CFLs) and light-emitting diode (LED) fixtures and bulbs.
Air leakage: Air leakage reduced to 300 cubic feet per minute (CFM) at 50 pascals of pressure, as measured by a diagnostic blower door.
